SimSweep Scan Accuracy Disclaimer

This disclaimer supplements the SimSweep Terms of Use and applies to all scanning, analysis, and recommendation features within the SimSweep application (the "Scan Engine").

What the Scan Engine Does

SimSweep's Scan Engine analyzes .package files and other mod-related files in your Sims 4 Mods folder. It examines resource keys, file structures, metadata, and known patterns to:

  • Identify potential conflicts between mods
  • Detect broken, corrupted, or outdated content
  • Classify content by type (CAS, build/buy, script mods, overrides, etc.)
  • Flag duplicate files
  • Suggest organizational actions (sorting, removal, disabling)
  • Help diagnose causes of game crashes or performance issues
  • Detect tuning-level incompatibilities between mods ("soft conflicts")
  • Analyze save files to identify which CC each save depends on

The Scan Engine is a tool designed to assist you. It is not infallible.

Accuracy Limitations

The Scan Engine operates on best-effort pattern matching and metadata analysis. It does not execute mod code or fully simulate the game engine.

This means:

  • False positives occur. The Scan Engine may flag a file as broken, conflicting, or problematic when it is actually fine. This can happen because of unusual (but valid) file structures, non-standard resource packaging, or patterns that resemble known issues but are not actually problems.

  • False negatives occur. The Scan Engine may fail to detect a real problem. Some conflicts are only detectable at runtime. Some broken content appears structurally valid. Some issues depend on load order, game version, or interactions between specific mods that the Scan Engine cannot predict.

  • Classifications may be wrong. Content type detection is based on heuristics. A file classified as "CAS" might actually be a hybrid. A file flagged as a "script mod" might contain both script and tuning resources.

  • Recommendations are suggestions, not commands. When the Scan Engine recommends removing, disabling, or moving a file, that is a suggestion based on its analysis. It may be wrong. The final decision is always yours.

  • Game updates can invalidate results. After a Sims 4 patch, previously valid content may become broken. Scan results from before a patch may not reflect the current state of compatibility.

  • Third-party content varies wildly. Custom content and mods are created by thousands of independent creators with different skill levels, tools, and packaging methods. The Scan Engine cannot account for every edge case in every creator's workflow.

Your Responsibility

Before acting on any scan result, especially before deleting or permanently modifying files, you should:

  1. Review the recommendation. Understand what the Scan Engine is flagging and why.
  2. Use the backup. SimSweep creates backups before destructive operations. Verify that the backup was created before proceeding.
  3. Test incrementally. If removing content to fix a problem, remove files in small batches and test your game between batches rather than bulk-deleting everything flagged.
  4. Keep your own backups. SimSweep's built-in backup system is a convenience feature, not a replacement for your own backup strategy. Maintain independent copies of your Mods folder, especially before large-scale changes.

Limitation of Liability

SYVR Studios LLC is not responsible for any consequences resulting from actions you take based on Scan Engine results, including but not limited to:

  • Deletion of files that were not actually broken or conflicting
  • Game crashes, broken saves, or lost progress
  • Loss of custom content that cannot be re-downloaded
  • Performance degradation
  • Time spent troubleshooting issues caused by acting on incorrect recommendations

This applies whether the Scan Engine's recommendation was a false positive, a false negative, or a correct identification that you acted on in a way that produced unintended results.

We're Always Improving

We actively work to improve the Scan Engine's accuracy with every update. If you encounter a false positive, a missed conflict, or a misclassification, we encourage you to report it. Community feedback is how we make the Scan Engine better.
