Overview
SimSweep and the SimSweep CC Source Tracker browser extension are built with privacy in mind. We collect as little data as possible and everything stays on your machine unless you explicitly contribute to the shared database.
SimSweep Desktop App
SimSweep scans your local Sims 4 Mods folder and generates reports about your custom content. All scanning happens entirely on your computer. Your files are never uploaded anywhere.
When you use the crowdsourced content sources feature (tagging where you downloaded a file from), that information is submitted to our shared database so other users can benefit from it. The only data sent is the file's SHA256 hash, the source URL, and the site name. No personal information, file contents, or filenames are included.
SimSweep collects anonymous, aggregated usage analytics (like which features are used and how often) to help us improve the app. These analytics contain no personal information and cannot be tied back to you.
CC Source Tracker Browser Extension
The SimSweep CC Source Tracker extension monitors your downloads to capture information about Sims 4 custom content files. Here is exactly what it collects and how:
- Download filenames for .package, .ts4script, .zip, .rar, and .7z files
- Download URLs (the direct link and CDN URL the file came from)
- Active tab URL at the moment a download starts (to know which website you were on)
- File size of the downloaded file
This data is only sent to the SimSweep desktop app running on your own computer via localhost (127.0.0.1). It never leaves your machine through the extension. If SimSweep isn't running, the captures are queued locally in Chrome's storage and delivered the next time you open the app.
The extension does not track your general browsing history. It only reads the active tab URL at the exact moment a relevant download completes. Archive files (.zip, .rar, .7z) are only captured when you're on a known Sims 4 CC website.
The extension does not use any remote code. All functionality is bundled locally.
Data We Do Not Collect
- Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
- Account credentials or authentication data
- Browsing history beyond the active tab at download time
- File contents of your mods or downloads
- Financial or payment information
- Location data
- Keystroke or mouse tracking data
Third-Party Services
SimSweep uses Aptabase for privacy-friendly analytics. Aptabase does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and is fully GDPR compliant.
Crowdsourced content sources are stored on Convex, a cloud database. Only file hashes and source URLs are stored there, with no connection to your identity.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third parties. The only data that leaves your computer is:
- Anonymous usage analytics (sent to Aptabase, no personal data)
- Content source submissions you choose to contribute (file hash + URL, sent to Convex)
